Slow Cooker Beef Brisket

A tender cut of beef cooked low and slow with chunky vegetables and rich flavours makes this a truly "aah Bisto" meal. Perfect for a any occasion. 


  • 4 tbsp Bisto Best Beef Gravy Granules
  • 1.5kg beef brisket, boned and rolled (other cheaper cuts of beef can be used, ask your butcher for advice)
  • 2 red onions, cut into wedges
  • 4 carrots, cut into chunks
  • 4 sticks of celery, cut into chunks
  • 2 bay leaves, fresh or dried
  • 2 tbsp tomato purée
  • 400ml boiling water
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil


  • Step 1:

    Set the slow cooker on high.

  • Step 2:

    Heat the oil in a large frying pan and sear the beef brisket, colouring the meat all over.

  • Step 3:

    Remove the brisket from the pan and set aside on a plate.

  • Step 4:

    Using the same frying pan, fry the onion, carrots and celery until lightly coloured.

  • Step 5:

    Add the vegetables to the slow cooker, placing the beef on top.

  • Step 6:

    Mix the Bisto Best Beef Gravy Granules with boiling water, add the tomato puree and bay leaves, stir well and pour into the slow cooker. Cover with the lid and cook for 6½ hours.

  • Step 7:

    Take out the beef and carve before serving with the vegetables and a dollop of rich gravy.

  • Tip:

    If you would like a more decadent gravy, replace some of the water with red wine.
